REVOLUSI BARU
A new revolution. Riding against the waves.
Angga Pratama an Indonesian-born, Dutch-raised artist exhibits thirteen of his work as a collection titled “Revolusi Baru”. Pratama only shoots analog and he is known to have a rather provocative work. Looking at his work, it is obvious Pratama embraces women and its feminity. He mostly shoots women, often nudes, all beautiful, all comfortable in their own skin. Although his work seems explicit, it is not necessarily pornographic.
To publicise these kinds of photographs in Indonesia, his work sometimes is considered to be controversial as Indonesia is still one step behind on the issue of censorship and showcasing nudity as a work of art.
‘Revolusi Baru’ opened at Studio Eksotika, Potato Head Bali. 13 photographic prints edited by hand with acrylic paint, permanent markers, different type of tapes, and crayon. Next to the prints, Pratama also made an installation where he set up the basis for other people to finish. A collaboration with the people to pave a new way of seeing. The installation was only seen on the opening night. 8 prints were taken down, leaving 5 prints remaining shown throughout the exhibition.
The work is about freedom. Freedom is something worth fighting for.
